Summer
time fun is just around the corner with the Donkey Mill Art Center’s
Summer Art Experience running June 14 through July 16, 2010. The Summer
Art Experience is an art intensive summer program for youth (K to 12)
spanning an exciting five weeks at The Donkey Mill Art Center in
Holualoa.
Guest artists include local artists and craftsman as
well as Artist in Residence Yarrow Lutz from New York City who brings
urban concepts to Hawaii's natural setting. Students will explore these
dynamics along with global perspectives through an array of art and
design traditions. The summer art studies will explore human culture
versus plant/animal culture through a diverse mix of mediums including
drawing, painting, Hawaiian crafts, ceramics, performance, movement,
gardening, installation, and mixed media projects. The Summer Art
Experience culminates with an art exhibition and presentation where
students share their accomplishments with their families and community.
The
Holualoa Foundation for the Arts and Cultural is pleased to offer art
education programs for children and youth. The art courses are designed
to use art as a tool for discovering one’s self, understanding
relationships through collaboration and communication, and solving
problems using critical thinking skills. The processes will help
students learn to apply creativity to their daily lives and gain
self-confidence.
Cost: $600 (member), $655 (non-member) limited class size, discounts for early enrollment, no drop-ins.

Make a splash: READ!Preschoolers
through Grade 6 can join the Children's Summer Reading Program at the
public library beginning on June 1, 2010. Visit the library and read at
least one book per week to receive a free incentive while supplies
last. Younger children may participate by having someone read to them.
A complete schedule of programs will be available upon registration.
Teens in Grade 7-12 can join the Young Adult Summer Reading program

9-11, 2010: A weekend overnight camp for kids and teens 5–17 who have
experienced the death of a loved one. Facilitated by professional staff
and trained volunteers they will participate in activities designed to

for preschool age children will take an adventure to the Carnival of
the Animals, and experience music from Japan and Mexico using hands-on

Wiggles, Bounces and Tickles” for babies and toddlers includes hands-on
instrument exploration, singing, active listening, and creative
